FVM Targeting International Accreditation 2019

Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FVM) UGM targets to achieve international accreditation from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) in 2019 to come. Therefore, the management faculty have the submission process to obtain such accreditation while making improvements in the development of quality assurance in education, research and community service. It was delivered by the Dean of the Faculty Dr. DVM. Joko Prastowo, M.Sc., after giving a speech at the ceremony of the summit report Dies Dean of the Faculty 70th in the auditorium of the Faculty, Tuesday (20/9).

Joko said to stabilize the international accreditation application process, the Faculty has recently established cooperation with the School of Veterinary Sciences of the University of Liverpool, England who will be a partner in providing accreditation assessment. “In 2019 we are targeting international accredited, in line with the mission of the campus that year could get 500 ranking of the world,” said Joko.

The recognition of international accreditation, said Joko, can later be used as a reference for other veterinary medical education institutions in Indonesia in the management of curriculum, educational organization and the learning process. According to him, the development of continuous quality is done through the mechanism of PDCA (plan, do, check, action) with the quality assurance unit of the Faculty.

The existence of a quality assurance system has been delivering veterinary department of the Faculty achieved ISO 9000: 2008 from TUV-Rheinland and certified the ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance (AUN-QA). “Keep in mind, first UGM veterinary study program in Indonesia that has been certified AUN-QA,” he added.

Anthrax Vaccination

In addition to academic quality in the field of development, the Vice Dean for Research, Community Service and Cooperation of the Faculty, Dr. DVM. Soedarmanto Indarjulianto, said UGM today give priority to the downstream research produced by the researchers of the Faculty. One of them was Durante, carrion detection devices, developed by Dr. DVM. Yatri Drastini, M.Sc. “Currently, the center is managed by a directorate of business development and incubation UGM to the stage of industrialization in order to mass production,” he said.

Not only that, Indarjulianto added, the Faculty also responded to issues of sustainability and food safety. Not long ago, the issue of meat infected with anthrax in Pacitan to the attention of researchers FKH. In fact, the issue could cause some residents worried about their sacrificial animals infected so ask the vet to be examined. “We send students and veterinary inspectors sacrificial animals to Pacitan, we find there are people who are afraid to eat meat, fear anthraxnya. Having examined the vet and otherwise healthy cows, about to be cut, “he said.

Although still limited issues, the Faculty and the Center for Veterinary in the near future plans to conduct anthrax vaccination program to anticipate and prevent the spread of anthrax in Pacitan. (UGM / Gusti Grehenson)
